About the Department
The Department of Economics at Shia P.G. College has 3 permanent faculty members and 3 part time members, who are engaged in research and teaching interest. That span a broad range of fields which include economic theory, game theory, behavioural economics, experimental economics, macroeconomics, monetary economics, economics growth, development economics, economic though and environmental economics.
History of the Department:
The Department of Economics in Faculty of Arts was established during the academic session of 1966-67. To begin with it started as a single teacher department with a small batch of around thirty students.
Dr. Movarrikh Husain Rizvi was appointed as the first Lecturer incharge of the department who continued to lead it till his retirement in 2003.
However, with the lapse of time numbers of students increased enormously and as a consequence some other teachers were appointed as well.
After retirement of Dr. Rizvi, Dr. (Mrs.) Ghuncha Zargham took over the charge of the department and continued as its Head till her sad demise. Soon after her, Dr. Syed Haider Mehdi took charge of the department and contributed his bit towards the progress of the department till his retirement.
Thereafter, the department is progressing tremendously under the able and versatile Headship of Dr. Syed Faheem Hasan.
Alongwith intensive teaching, many interdisciplinary seminars and symposia like Socio-economic conditions of Artisans of U.P. with special reference to Lucknow and The Role of Mathematics in Social Sciences etc. have been organised in collaboration with the other departments of the college. All faculty members in the department are energetic and hard working. They perform their duty with full devotion and sincerity.
